About Our Doctors:

Dr. Bernie Siegel and Dr. Andrew Weil
Dr. Bernie Siegel and Dr. Andrew Weil are best-selling authors on the topic of holistic health. Both doctors give in-depth descriptions of the complex mechanisms in which the body uses to heal itself. More importantly they explain how your mind affects these processes. In other words, they offer a significant amount of help in terms of re-programming our minds to enhance our healing process. They also deal extensively with various strategies for preventing illness. Siegel in particular in his first book, Love Medicine and Miracles, does some good work on the connection between stress and illness, and even stress and cancer.

The bottom line with both these doctors is that there is a direct connection between the mind and the body. When one is unhealthy it won't be long until the other one follows. The authors also offer a number of amazing testimonies of people who overcame what should have been terminal diseases and hopeless situations by reprogramming the way they think, ate, and lived their lives.

Dr. Deepak Chopra

Dr. Deepak Chopra, is perhaps America's most well known "family doctor". Dr. Chopra combines Eastern medical practices which have had thousands of years to develop, with the newest insights of quantum physics. Dr. Chopra offers truly unique insights in to the body's healing process, as well as a number of strategies for staying healthy and beating the biological aging clock. When one understands that quantum physics proves that at the physical level our bodies are not really as solid as they appear (i.e. atoms and the parts that make up atoms are essentially empty space) we learn that our bodies are, at their basic denominator, simply made up of energy and information. This realization is fundamental to understanding the efficaciousness of the strategies suggested by not only Chopra but the other authors listed here. In other words, if our bodies are made up of information and energy it's easier to comprehend the impact thinking, attitudes and actions may have on our physical health.

Dr. Richard Carlson

Dr. Richard Carlson, a PhD in psychology is one of the worlds leading writers in the field of stress reduction, and achieving overall happiness. His message is simply that changing your thinking can change your life. Sometimes we can't do much to change our circumstances, but we can change our perspective, our attitude, and our interpretation of circumstances. Carlson, the modern American "guru of happiness" pounds his thesis home through a number of books. His most popular series are called Don't Sweat the Small Stuff. Each chapter is one to three pages of distilled wisdom from thousands of years of saints and sages. His first book Don't Sweat the Small Stuff (and it's all small stuff), truly does sum up the teachings of the great wisdom traditions, particularly those found in the bible. A lot of things he talks about we already know, but we've forgotten, or forget to practice. We've talked to theologians who say they have found more wisdom and peace using Richards' daily topics as devotionals then any other single source. Each small chapter, whether its about getting along with others, or your family, or not worrying about things that you can't change, resolving conflict, etc, are concise but powerful. One of our favorites pointed out that most of us live our life like it's a "practice session". Meaning; we always say well someday I'll get it together, someday I'll do what I really want to do, someday I'll do what I'll really need to do, someday I'll go for it; but first I have to deal with all of these other things. Carlson wisely points out that "someday" never comes, because "someday" is right now! Either we begin to live the life that we know we should now or we never will. That particular three-page essay hits like a ton of bricks. I continue to review this work and his others on a yearly basis. His other "Don't Sweat" series apply the same sort of short wisdom formats on topics like: getting a long better with your family, relating better to your love interest, etc. His little book on how to make money has a surprising number of practical strategies as well as important insight on the sort of mindset it takes to be successful financially.

His other works, You Can Feel Good Again, Short Cut Through Therapy, and my personal favorite, You Can Be Happy No Matter What, use a more traditional book format, but are no less valuable or concise. Rather then dealing with multiple topics or examples, they concentrate on a particular theme of the book. In these books Carlson deals a lot with understanding your moods as well as the moods of others, understanding how other people think and act, and therefore not getting upset about them, and developing a broader wiser perspective on your own strengths and weaknesses. He also talks a lot about learning to be grateful, living with your imperfections, developing wisdom, and living life to its fullest. The whole series is highly recommended.

About Our Authors:
Greg Anderson
Greg Anderson was told by his doctors that he had less then a year to live from terminal cancer. A decade later he is busy turning out books. His excellent, Twenty-two Laws of Wellness, takes all of the holistic wisdom offered from numerous other sources and breaks it down into twenty-two easy to remember "laws", usually three or four pages long. While some have to do with nutrition, exercise, and various medical strategies, most are oriented toward the sort of life mastery that creates a well adjusted mind, hence a healthy body. Consequently the various laws deal with finding ones purpose in life; serving others, learning to forgive, learning the art of gratitude, achieving personal peace, avoiding conflict, and so on.

Daniel Taylor

Have you ever doubted your faith? Do you have trouble trying to live your faith amongst secular or perhaps even antagonistic environments? Do you have trouble living your faith even amongst our own friend's colleagues and church members? Do you feel sometimes that you don't fit in either world? The Godless materialist hedonistic world that you see around you, or the uptight, legalistic, small-minded, backwater religious world that you feel you're a part of? Daniel Taylor a professor at a small evangelical college in Minnesota, shares his struggles with all of these issues, and he offers solid guide lines for living in between two worlds, for accepting imperfections in our community of faith, for accepting our own doubts and blemishes and still living a joyous life based on faith and a God who loves us.
