The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. - Proverbs 1:7
The "fear of the Lord" means we are appropriately reverential to the creator of the universe, our world and our very being. If you were to meet your cr eator, the most powerful being in the universe, I'd guess you'd be pretty respectful of the ground rules He established for a successful life.
Honoring your creator and His universal laws, and having healthy respect for the negative consequences of violating them is the first step towards true knowledge about how to live life.
